Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the mutual impact of family-owned businesses and family relationships in the Arab society in Israel. The study uses a quantitative. The findings of the study indicate that there is a mutual relationship that exists between the relationships between families within the business in regards to conflict, characteristics, succession, family structure and influence of the family. The study faced some limitations; first limitation is that the results of the study were not generalizable to other countries and cultures, or even to the Jewish sector. Second, there was no research on this subject and participants were sensitive about revealing private information may cause them to change the facts. The study utilized the triangulation of data to improve the outcomes of the results. The study recommends that businesses set structures that will enforce clear boundaries, communication, dynamism, conflict resolution and corporate governance. The value of the research is to inform the exploration of the mutuality of relationships between family and business, thus improving the understanding of key intersection areas and thus, the resolution of any arising problems in this area. Further areas of research would be to investigate is the role of non-family members as a catalyst of the business-family relationship within family enterprises
